Cecilie Hafstad

Vocalist, Sound Healer

Cecilie Hafstad is a Norwegian vocalist and sound healer based in Norway. Christopher Bono recorded her vocal improvisations on the ambient last track of Ghost Against Ghost's 2017 album still love; her authentic emotion, timbre and Scandinavian inflections motivated him to build a project devoted to framing her voice as the primary subject. The duo (with Christopher's wife Karina) scheduled a week-long recording session on a Lyngen fjord in Northern Norway during the season of the midnight sun. There they made what became Gabbarein — 14 pieces built on emotive improvised vocals, sparse arrangements, and local nature samples, named after the white reindeer that appeared on the first morning of the session ("Gabbarein" means white reindeer in Sami).
